Adjunct Associate Professor Ian Coombes Dr Ian Coombes is the Director of Pharmacy at Royal Brisbane and Women’s hospital, Australia. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor at School of Pharmacy University of Queensland. Ian has 20 years experience in the area of practitioner development and as a manager and developer of patient centered pharmacy services. Ian's research, management and leadership focus over several years have been on developing a competent pharmacy workforce fit for purpose. His personal PhD and research supervision has included safe prescribing, practitioner development and investigating novel clinical pharmacy services. He is current Vice President of Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia.
Professor Andrew Dawson Professor Andrew Dawson is Medical Director at New South Wales Poisons Information Centre, a Clinical Professor, Addiction Medicine, Central Clinical School, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia and is also Program Director South Asian Clinical Toxicology Research Collaboration (SACTRC), Peradeniya University. His principle research focus has been to reduce deaths from deliberate self-poisoning. The major operational areas are primary prevention, regulatory control, translational research into new antidotes and research into the implementation of evidence into clinical practice. Most of this work is carried out with an international research collaboration (SACTRC) based in South Asia. Professor Dawson was instrumental in establishing research projects that underpin CASPPERS the clinical pharmacy background and intervention work at Ragama University.
Dr Mohamed Fahim Dr Mohamed Fahim’s passion to improve healthcare for Sri Lankan's led him to do his PhD in Medicine. An Endeavour Postgraduate Scholarship provided an opportunity for him to further develop his epidemiological clinical laboratory skills. He worked closely with his supervisors and built on his data analysis and interpretation skills as well as expanding his academic writing skills. He presented his research work to both local and international audiences and won three international travel grants. Which enabled him to collaborate with international university partners, including the University of Edinburgh, University of Colorado, the Australian National University and the University of Queensland. Dr Fahim has been involved in organising the visiting clinical pharmacy teaching program since 2009.
Ms Judith Coombes Judith Coombes graduated with a BPharm from the University of Queensland and MSc at the University of Brighton. She has a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education from the University of Queensland. She has held a Conjoint teacher/ practitioner appointment between the School of Pharmacy, University and pharmacy department Princess Alexandra Hospital since 1996. Judith maintains an interest in quality use of medicine (QUM), medication taking behaviour by patients and practitioner development. Her PhD study is: Improving self-management of medications by patients receiving therapy for stroke prevention. Judith was one of the inaugural lecturers in the CASPPER program at University of Peradeniya in 2009.
Dr. Nirmala Wijekoon MBBS MD MRCP(UK)) FRCP(Lond) FRCP(Edin) FCCP Dr. Nirmala Wijekoon is a Specialist in General Medicine and a Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology at University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. She is a member of the Specialty Board in Medical Toxicology and the chairperson of the Specialty Board in Clinical Pharmacology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. She has wide experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching including evaluation and supervision of postgraduate research carried out by MBBS and BPharm graduates. She has contributed to the development of National Guidelines for Management of Non-communicable Diseases at Primary Health Care and National Antibiotic Guidelines. She is the current treasurer of Sri Lanka Association of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics and has served as the honorary joint secretary of the Ceylon College of Physicians in 2011 and 2012. Dr. Wijekoon has experience in conducting multicenter clinical trials and her research interests include non-communicable diseases, rational prescribing and clinical pharmacy services.
